Kutztown Folk Festival circa 1983

Some kids got to go to Disney for vacations- I got to visit folk festivals (not going to lie- would totally torture and drag the kids to this). These photos are from circa 1983 (processed in July ’83 per the stamp on the slide). (For a simple easy-to-use slide scanner I recommend the KODAK SCANZA Digital Film & Slide Scanner from Amazon.)

Yes, there are photos of me as an awkward almost-12-year-old. It was the early 80s, none of us looked good back then.

America’s Oldest Folklife Festival

The Kutztown Folk Festival is the oldest continuously operated folklife festival in America. This nine-day event draws visitors from all over the world, entertaining families while providing valuable insight into the traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch and their fascinating way of life.

#tbt Vintage Renwal Dollhouse bits and bobs

So earlier today I was wandering Facebook (as one tends to do) when Franklin Habit posted a photo that looked awfully familiar. Why yes, it was of the same mother and son Dollhouse Dolls that I inherited from #deadnancy. There is not a lot of information out there about the Renwal Company but I was able to find that they were a higher-end maker.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Ideal, Marx, and Renwal were the high-end manufacturers of dollhouse furniture. Plasco produced a more “generic” line of furniture designed to sell at a lower price point, 15 to 25 percent cheaper.

3 toilets
Yup, that is three toilets. I am sure the toilet seat for the white one was in the box but couldn’t find it.
Also there is a pink high chair/ toilet combo not pictured

I think this might be a parade but that does not answer the questions that this photo brings up.
Why are those two people sitting in the van?
Why is that man not committed to having his shirt off? Is that a comb-over he has happening? Although I do miss the days when men actually owned that they are hairy creatures instead of waxing themselves.
Do all of those kids belong to that woman? Or do they belong to some of the adults?
Furthermore why did Nancy take a photo of them?
